The International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) is about celebrating the incredible women shaping agriculture today – through their stories, experiences, and leadership. DGN is leading the charge to share the dairy stories of our women farmers here in the US, and we want your help!
This kit is designed to help you share your own story confidently and consistently with hundreds of other dairywomen nationwide. Whether you post on social media, speak at an event, or write for your local paper, these tools will help you represent yourself and the dairy community with authenticity and pride.

Tell Your Story:
In recognition of the IYWF, Dairy Girl Network is inviting dairywomen across agriculture to share their stories and celebrate the impact they make every day.
Women farmers and ag professionals play a vital role in shaping our food system, strengthening rural communities, and moving agriculture forward. This year, we want to elevate those dairywomen voices and create space for real stories, whether they highlight generational legacies, modern operations, off-farm careers, challenges overcome, or proud everyday moments.
We encourage our community to participate by sharing photo(s), video(s), or just a post that reflects their personal journey in dairy, or the story of someone they love. Participants are asked to tag @DairyGirlNetwork social media accounts and use the official campaign hashtag #IYWFxDGN. Selected stories may be reshared across DGN platforms as part of this year-long celebration.
By sharing your story, you help amplify the collective voice of dairywomen and inspire others within the industry and beyond. Together, we can honor the past, celebrate the present, and shape the future of women in dairy.
How to Present Your Story:
There is no right or wrong way to share your story – and that’s exactly what makes the Taking Root and Growing Legacy storytelling campaign so meaningful. Every experience, perspective, and journey in dairy is different, and your unique voice is what brings this campaign to life. Whether you choose to share your story through a written post, video, or both, the prompts below are designed to help guide your reflection and storytelling.
You do not need to answer every question in detail or in a specific order. Instead, use these talking points to shape a story that feels authentic to you and highlights the moments, lessons, or values that have taken root in your life and work.
Open your post/video with this statement: “As part of DGN’s Taking Root and Growing Legacy storytelling series, I would like to share _________.” (This could be a moment, a lesson, your journey, or a defining experience in dairy.)
Use these questions as guidance when telling your story:
- Tell us where your story in dairy began? Who or what first inspired your connection to farming?
- Every farmer faces challenges. Can you tell us about a difficult season and how you found your way through it?
- As we celebrate the International Year of the Woman Farmer, what message or truth do you hope the world hears about dairywomen?
Close your post/video with this statement: “Look for other stories through DGN and about the International Year of the Woman Farmer with #IYWFxDGN”
Tips for Great Content:
You don’t need a professional camera or a perfectly styled moment to participate; authentic stories matter most. Here are a few tips to help you capture content that reflects your life:
What You Could Share
- Everyday moments: chores, feeding, planting, milking, checking fields, office work, or end-of-day reflections
- Behind the scenes: the work that often goes unseen but keeps everything running
- People and place: you, your family, your team, your animals, or the land you care for
- Proud moments: milestones, traditions, or moments that make you say, “This is why I do this.”
- Legacy: Who has shaped you or how do you hope to leave your mark in the industry, your community or your family
Photo Tips
- Natural light is best: step outside or face a window when possible
- Don’t worry about perfection, candid photos often tell the strongest stories
- If someone else is taking the photo, ask them to shoot both horizontal and vertical
- Include details: boots, hands, tools, notebooks, or textures that tell your story
Video Tips
- Videos of any length will work great for this campaign
- Try a quick clip of you working, walking through your day, or showing a process
- Talking videos are welcome: share what you do, why it matters to you, or what being a woman in agriculture means to you
- Film vertically and keep the camera steady whenever possible
Caption Ideas
- Open and Close with the prompts from the “How to Present Your Story” section above
- Share a sentence or two about who you are and what you do
- Reflect on the questions from the “How to Present Your Story” section above
- Keep it real: your voice and experience are what matter most
Remember: your story doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Every role, operation, and journey in dairy is valuable. By sharing your story and using #IYWFxDGN, you’re helping make women in dairy more visible, together.
