Webinar Mini-Series: Farm Safety

Farm Safety Webinar Mini-Series: Get 2 webinars for the price of 1!

Webinar 1 (pre-recorded): Silage Safety: Send Everyone Home Safe

This webinar was presented by Connie Kuber, co-owner of Connor Agriscience and Sealpro Silage Barrier Film and is now recorded.

Webinar 1 Summary: Farm work can be divided into two categories: everyday chores and eventful seasonal work. The ritual of everyday chores can lead to complacency, and during the once or twice a year seasonal events (like harvest), we perform unpracticed, out-of-the-ordinary jobs, facing more unfamiliar dangers. Farm life is wrought with safety risks, resulting in something as simple as cuts and bruises, and as tragic as death. Gather around with your family and employees to learn how to lessen the dangers of working with silage from harvest to feedout. This webinar features safe harvest planning and silage management for all ages, with special emphasis on children and young adults. Learn new strategies to send everyone home safe.

Webinar 2: People First for Healthy Agriculture: Managing Risk

This webinar will be presented by Megan Schossow, Director of Outreach & Center Coordinator, Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH), on Friday, August 27th, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. CST | 1:00 p.m. EST | 11:00 a.m. MST | 10:00 a.m. PST.

Webinar 2 Summary: A key component to sustainable and thriving agriculture are healthy people and animals. The farm and agricultural sites are a dreamy and dangerous workplace, and yet people are the most important resource in ag. This presentation will take an applied approach to thinking about key hazards in dairies, and everyone will walk away with tools, experts and resources to support dairy workers, families and communities. We will break down the hierarchy of controls and apply it so that participants can have healthy people and animals on the farm.

Call in, watch online OR listen when you can! We record and hold all webinars for one month for members to watch when it suits them! You must still register by the deadline below to watch the webinars live or on your own time.

Connie Kuber is a silage safety advocate and co-owner of Connor Agriscience and Sealpro® Silage Barrier Film. She grew up on a small Southeast Minnesota dairy farm and was lucky to have brothers that would climb the silo when it plugged. She’s lived in California for nearly 40 years, working in genetics, freelance writing, and for the past 25 years, has been in business with her husband, Ron, helping farmers make and manage silage. Her work with large farms coupled with her younger years of small farm life gives her a unique understanding of both, and a deep appreciation for families and employees who work amid farm safety risks every day. Connor (a combination of their names) is an education company first, teaching correct harvest strategy and silage management, resulting in more, better, and safer silage. Connie and Ron introduced oxygen barrier technology to the western US 15 years ago and worked closely with Dr. Keith Bolsen, whose passion was silage safety. Sealpro® is their own brand of film. Connie is currently President of the Bolsen Safety Foundation, serves on the Dairy Girl Network Board of Directors, and the advisory council for Clovis FFA. She and Ron have three grown children. Donate to DGN!

Check out the True Believers Campaign:

Dairy Girl Network is launching a campaign to support the overall mission and vision of our organization. We want to allow members and DGN True Believers the opportunity to support an organization they love and help us keep moving our objective forward. Every donation will provide support to DGN, it’s staff and the overall organization to continue programs such as our Connect networking events, Sharing Wisdom educational seminars, #StrongerTogetHER initiative, Inspire mentoring program, Exchange online community, Include initiative, future courses, and so much more.

The Dairy Girl Network connects all women of the dairy industry and beyond, encouraging ideas and camaraderie in an effort to achieve personal and professional development. As Dairy Girl Network (DGN) grows and adapts to evolving changes all around us, it’s important we remain focused on our vision of supporting all women in dairy by enhancing lives and creating opportunities. The dairy business has changed and DGN is exploring an additional option of financial support for our organization since our membership is free. What has not changed all around us is that DGN members across the nation are coming together and finding a community when they might not have one up the street. DGN programs are designed to help women find information that will move them to do better in every part of their life. Anywhere there is a dairy producer, we have members. This is vital because we want to make sure DGN is inclusive when we look at all of the issues facing the dairy business right where each dairywoman is. To support our mission and vision, DGN will be fundraising to a monetary goal by support from individuals and business donations for the very first time.

Your support is greatly appreciated to help us continue to support all women in dairy by enhancing lives and creating opportunities. DGN is an organization without membership dues and since inception, funding sources have graciously been provided through agri-business and industry believers.

In 2019, she founded P’ri CBD, a line of health and wellness products made from the hemp grown by her own hands, right on her farm. Today, the call God placed so strongly on her heart has grown into a thriving business that serves customers in more than 10 states, providing not only third-party tested products, but also complimentary prayer cards.
